January 27 2024- Productions Nov to Dec 2023

Three productions and four plays spread over a little more than a month. ‘Birth’ and ‘The Deserter’ two one-act plays part of ‘Encompass’ a co- production with Janet Rawson, staged at the Groundlings Theatre, using the considerable talents of April Singley and Joseph Scatley. A great experience. And a great review by the local paper.

Following on from ‘Messi & Ronaldo’ at the White Bear Theatre in April 2023, changed the name of the play to ‘Jamie and his Dad’ with Jamie being played by a brilliant young talent in Charles Wingrove. Lucky enough to be given three nights at the iconic Wedgewood Rooms. Another really, very positive review by the Portsmouth News.

To close out what has been a very successful year, ‘ Rise and Fall’ a co production with Peter Matthew McCrohon – my play ‘Falling’ and his play ‘Two Ton Tony’ at the Southsea Cinema and Arts Centre. A great success in terms of attendance and reviews. Two outstanding performances by Francesca McCrohon and Aaron Holdaway in ‘Rise and Fall’. Fortunately the plays were filmed, so I have a record of what was a wonderful experience all round.

Blog not updated for several months, mostly due to non activity during the year as a result of the pandemic and restrictions resulting from.

However, there has been some activity, A production of ‘Maisie’ following the run in London, in Portsmouth, in early January 2020. Followed by a double bill of plays ‘Inside Out’ and ‘Freehold’ produced by Titchfield Festival Theatre at the end of January. And in April a live Zoom performance of ‘The Allotment’ produced by the So And So Arts Club.

A successful production of ‘Maisie’ at the Bread and Roses Theatre in December. Great reviews. Very happy. Gwenan Bain and Steve Blacker have offered to bring the show to Portsmouth on the 8th January. Very much looking forward to it.

Will be staging a collection of short plays at the Square Tower 30th and 31st March 2020. The venue kindly offered for two nights following the cancellation of ‘Exhume’ in October. Plan to resurrect a number of old pieces including ‘Paperwork’ and present some new stuff.

Rehearsals for ‘Ticking’ start 12th August. No idea how this play will be received by an audience, if there is an audience. It’s pretty controversial and I’m not sure if I should have shelved it and forgotten about it.

Looking for an actor and director for ‘Maisie’ which I really am looking forward to. Going to the Bread and Roses this Saturday to see the space and to meet one director interested in being part of it.0A363EFF-7E0D-4422-817C-718848DE20BB

Submitted ‘Freehold’ to the White Bear Theatre for their August Festival. Hope it comes off and we can produce the play there. Terry Iland Emily Swain and Anthony Keetch are keen to perform it. If not successful I will produce it somewhere.

A very successful first staging of ‘Exhume’ at Titchfield Festival Theatre, played largely to a ‘new’ audience who have not seen my stuff before. My thanks to Kevin Fraser the Artistic Director, who  says he wants to put more of my work on. Encouraging all round.

A joy to witness Emily Swain and Anthony Keetch undertake a rehearsed reading of  my play ‘Freehold’ at the So & So Arts Club, directed by an award winning TV Director Terry Iland.  Looking for a London theatre to stage the play properly.

In February wrote a first draft of a play entitled ‘Ticking’ . Told over 75 minutes and in 25 scenes Margaret Newman seeks to find the answer as to why her son Mark shot eight innocent people dead in a pub.

The So And So arts Club rehearsed reading of ‘Freehold’ date set for the 28th February at the London Bridge headquarters.

Reviewing a number of old film scripts written, and since the last posting have revised ‘Resume from Hibernation’ and ‘ Holly’ both not looked at for more than five years.

‘Exhume’ at Titchfield Festival Theatre kicks off on the 25th Feb to the 2nd March 2019. Look forward to the production immensely. My thanks to Kevin Fraser the Artistic Director for wanting to stage the play.

A successful three night run of RUNAWAY. Olivia Noyce and Jem Rycraft did a great job in a very short rehearsal time. Proud of them both. Thanks to Jane Athron and Mike Reed for their support.

FREEHOLD reached the long list stage of the Traverse Theatre’s open submissions.  I hope it goes further, but will take some credit from reaching the long list stage, given the  theatre’s reputation and standing.  Given that the Titchfield Festival Theatre’s Artistic Director wants to stage it, without giving any dates yet, and the So And So Arts Club want to do a rehearsed reading,  I feel very pleased with the responses generally so far to one of my favourite little plays.

The plan is to stage something at the White Bear Theatre in the first quarter of next year. Awaiting the Artistic Director’s response to my communication regarding this.
