A successful three night run of RUNAWAY. Olivia Noyce and Jem Rycraft did a great job in a very short rehearsal time. Proud of them both. Thanks to Jane Athron and Mike Reed for their support.
FREEHOLD reached the long list stage of the Traverse Theatre’s open submissions. I hope it goes further, but will take some credit from reaching the long list stage, given the theatre’s reputation and standing. Given that the Titchfield Festival Theatre’s Artistic Director wants to stage it, without giving any dates yet, and the So And So Arts Club want to do a rehearsed reading, I feel very pleased with the responses generally so far to one of my favourite little plays.
The plan is to stage something at the White Bear Theatre in the first quarter of next year. Awaiting the Artistic Director’s response to my communication regarding this.
Dress rehearsal of ‘Runaway’ tomorrow. Been tough rehearsing a play over less than four weeks. Ridiculous really. But we’ll get there and offer up a good production. My thanks to the combined talents of Oliva Noyce Jem Rycraft Jane Athron Mike Reed.
Delighted that Sarah Berger founder member of the So And So Arts Club wants to present a rehearsed reading of my little play ‘Freehold’ in 2019. One of if not the most enjoyable play I have ever written. Not sure why. It just came out like an easy birth. Maybe that’s the reason. Not sure.
An early version of ‘Exhume’ long listed for the Papatango Prize. Some nice comments by the readers.
Kevin Fraser Artistic Director of Titchfield Festival Theatre to direct ‘Exhume’ in the first quarter of 2019 as part of a new writing season. First staging of the play.
Issued ‘Freehold’ to a number of producing Theatre companies.
Despite the structure and storyline ‘Benches’ went down well and received a couple of pretty good reviews. Credit to all the actors and to Sam Sampson for directing it.
Plan to stage ‘Runaway’ at Rosie’s Vineyard in October. Alex Howat to play Cathy’s uncle Mike, but yet to find a Cathy. It will be the first staging of the play in the U.K. following a production by Small but Mighty Theatre in Toronto last August.
Wrote the first draft of an oddball two hander play entitled ‘Freehold’ in the U.K. and Portugal about an eccentric middle aged woman called Beverley who knocks on the door of a quiet introspective man called John Baxter who owns the ground floor flat of a Victorian house split into two flats on two levels to ask if the people who live upstairs who are selling the flat are with him as they arranged to meet her. They are not, and are otherwise engaged and cannot show her around. Beverley and John share some time together. And other things besides.
Rehearsals for ‘Benches’ start next week. A bit scary but we’ll do it. Look forward to Sam Sampson directing. Increasingly think the play should be given a London run.
Finished various versions of ‘Exhume’. It’s been a killer. Really hope someone produces it on my behalf. It will work as fringe but does need a ‘proper’ set to maximise the drama I think. We will see.
The film of ‘The Brother’ close to being completed. For sure by the end of January.
Cuckoo Bang theatre are staging an extract from my play ‘Benches’ developed post the Royal Court Writers’ group of 2016, at the White Bear Theatre on the 12th February. Look forward to seeing it.
Staging ‘Benches’ in Southsea over four nights in Spring. Two cast members to find. A production at the White Bear Theatre is planned for the autumn, no dates set yet.
Katie Watson and Aaron Holdaway did a great job in ‘Mirrors’ for the two nights at the Wedgewood Rooms 22nd and 23rd November. Really good interpretation.
‘Payback’ accepted for the Stockwell Theatre Five Minute Festival. Colin Burden to Direct. Kamal Simpson and Anna Ray to perform the roles in another two-hander on the 14th December.
